Project Description

Many of our clients working in the oil and gas industry deal with fracking. Understanding how to help them tell their story in a way that isn’t only informative, but also fun and engaging, is always our top priority.

Traditional oil and gas explainer videos and fracking equipment commercials have a reputation for being very engineer-oriented; they provide straightforward, step-by-step instructions and how-tos about technical equipment, but they tend to be long, literal, and overloaded with information.

In many instances, clients feel overwhelmed at the idea of creating a digital frac site video because it’s too difficult to explain their business to an animator or ad agency. Likewise, it’s a mountain of work for the people who are unfamiliar with these specific tools and concepts. This can be a huge opportunity loss for clients with very technical, difficult to explain offerings.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Our method involves taking that same complex topic and making it an enjoyable project that results in an exciting final product that leaves the audience craving more. Taking this approach makes the product more abstract and reasonable, which can ultimately lead to higher customer engagement and overall sales.

When it came to the frac site video for Tally Energy Services, we knew we had to tone down the technical details and make their product exciting, easy to understand and more memorable than ever.

Tally Energy Services wanted us to showcase their software for frac operators that prioritizes safety, saves money, and improves accuracy on the job. Composed of engineers and software developers with firsthand experience in the oil and gas industry, Tally’s team of trusted professionals has experience in the space that sets them apart from the competition.

The company competes with big household name brand software companies, but Tally knows its clients better, and that’s how they wanted to be portrayed in this industrial tool commercial.

Much like us, Motion Giraffx and Pixar are both animation companies who tell compelling stories. If a client needs an animation about a frac site, it would be a no-brainer to go with Motion Giraffx over Pixar because we have the specific oil and gas technical experience needed for the project.

Since the client didn’t have any CAD files for frac site equipment, we faced an initial challenge to build out a non-proprietary scene. Even though we have so many other frac site models based on our past experience, we can’t use their IP on another client’s story. It was almost a deal-breaker; building the trucks in 3D from scratch would’ve been out of budget.

Thankfully, we acquired some generic models, and since we know what the individual components are, we were able to source, assemble, and build the environment with minimal hand-holding from our clients.

We also combined three stories into one at a high level: FracStream, ReStream, and NightHawk. By doing this, we had the opportunity to focus on efficient storytelling; we gave the audience key takeaways without revealing every intricate detail.

The job of the animation is not to sell the products, it’s to invite understanding and conversation, create brand awareness, and qualify leads, making the jobs of the sales team easier. With this frac site animation video, we feel confident saying we helped Tally Energy Services achieve just that.
