Project Description

The art of 3D animation can take a vision, bring you inside and make you swear it’s real.

In this digital marketing video for National Oil Varco (NOV), we designed a technical product video that would stir emotion and excite the industrial workforce.

There’s a lot of power that comes with using a high-end, captivating, and emotion stirring animation as a sales tool. It can capture your target audience and show them a completely different side to your industry.

Bringing a Vision to Life

To do the product justice, the video production needed to reflect the caliber of the product. It needed to convey that NOV invests in its business and holds itself to a high standard. It also needs to create the message that they care about providing quality service to their customers.

The Marketing and Advertising Goals of the Frac Video

In this marketing piece, we take you into the oil and gas world in an environment that was created in our animation studio. We set the scene to show the viewer how a frac pad could be pristine, fresh, green, and reserved.

Through this advertising journey, we experience the elements, we understand that there’s a vision for a better future, and we’re shown a new reality for the oil and gas industry.

When two superpowers united – electrical engineering and fracturing expertise – a better, safer, cleaner hydraulic fracturing experience was born. The Ideal™ Frac Fleet solves a lot of problems in one fell swoop.

The Visuals

We knew we wanted to make this video electrifying, but we had a few barriers to hop first.

The biggest problem faced by our team was creating the animation with forest elements. We needed to figure out how to capture the environment with a fleet of highly detailed vehicles and equipment. Needing to calculate every nut, leaf, and rock on the site, it can be difficult and timely for the computer to process. Since we have a lot of experience animating frac sites and other notoriously large industrial scenes, we have a few tricks to make the job manageable and affordable.

We started by using a particle simulator to create rain for a moody element, but it crashed too many times to count and didn’t work well in general. Instead, we animated a fractal noise on a reflection render element. Ultimately, this created what looks like splashes of rain on surfaces and a much more affordable and effective solution for our clients.

Once we navigated these challenges, the rest of the details fell perfectly into place.

The text was made to be dark and bold to catch the viewer’s attention.

The intro was dimly lit with a render element.

The lightning flashes were created by animating the brightness.

And the sound effects brought everything together, creating a seamless, realistic layer to the visuals.

All of this just to say that, like our clients, we focus on reducing NPT. Our goal is to use our combined breadth of knowledge in animation techniques and the oil and gas industry to tell effective stories efficiently and creatively.

This fracking industrial animation marketing video doesn’t only paint a clear, vibrant picture of what NOV can do – it also reinforces the fact that they’re leaders in the industry. We’re excited to see how this gets used at tradeshows, conferences, on social media and more.
