SLB Intelligent Pipeline Integrity: 3D Animated Explainer

SLB's Intelligent Pipeline Integrity service watches networks too long to inspect by eye, and the people who answer for them were the audience: pipeline operators, asset managers and integrity engineers. Motion Giraffx took on the job of making that watching visible to technical and nontechnical viewers alike.

The 1:48 film opens on glowing lines crossing different terrain while the narrator calls pipelines the central nervous system of the global energy supply. A real-time monitoring platform follows on laptop screens, with interactive maps and analytical dashboards. Cutaways take up leaks, illegal tapping, internal corrosion, network optimization and inline pig tracking. Then comes a control center staffed by digital service specialists, and a 3D topographic map ties the network together before the SLB logo and web address close the film.

The craft call was to put people in the middle of the software. Dashboards alone read as a product feature, so we cut to the specialists in the control center to show that someone acts on what the data says. For an operator weighing a monitoring service, that is the proof that matters.

Pipelines run underground and out of sight. A flange can be opened up in 3D, a leak can be shown as it starts and a whole network can be seen at once. If your infrastructure story depends on what nobody can walk, 3D animation is where we would start.
