Project Description

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about oil and gas video production, it’s that there are lots of tubes involved. Coiled tubes. Straight tubes. Tubes hanging inside tubes.

So, when it came to creating a product video for NOV’s ATP Coiled Tubing, we busted out our PPE and went straight to the source to capture the authentic look only video production can offer. We captured why NOV is a master of its craft, putting human grit into the equation as an indicator of high quality and a personal touch. We left no pipe un-quenched and no arm hair un-singed to get these epic shots for NOV.

How to hire an oil and gas video production studio

When it comes to oil and gas video production, we have one huge advantage: experience. To date, every member of our team has at least at one point worked, lived, and breathed oil and gas (ok, maybe we don’t breathe gas, but… you know what we mean).

Our knowledge of the industry and experience with some of the biggest names in the business allows us to show up on set with some familiarity of the products and services – making it safer and faster to get the job done. We aren’t afraid to get dirty, put on some steel-toes, hop on a plane to Midland, or, in this case, play with fire (… just kidding, HSE guy, if you’re reading this).

Working through our video production process

We take pride in our flexibility. In the NOV’s oil and gas video example, we were required to shoot “Run & Gun.” This means we filmed everything we saw as soon as we got on set. We filmed what was there on location and found the composition and angles on the fly without storyboarding shots.

This allowed for an unstaged, gritty, authentic story to unfold based on the shots we took. This process isn’t standard or typically recommended, but production schedules within a warehouse require flexibility and creative thinking.

Next, we used a list of key selling points and must-have money shots provided by NOV to help us navigate our decision-making process on site. We then took the story to the editing room.

Once we shot and edited the video, we wrote the script and recorded the voiceover. The music track drove the editing, setting the tone for the video and pacing of the fast edits within the production. Color correction using LUTs helped provide the soft log footage with the sharp gritty look.

This video project was fast-paced. It was filmed in a day with its first draft edited within two days, and only a few miniscule edits needed after that.

The result of the final product? A successful video that NOV can play at oil and gas industry trade shows and other marketing events.

This allowed for the NOV team to leave the marketing videos to us so they could focus on what they do best, armed with a more efficient and effective visual presentation of their hard work and dedication.
